Fishmint

Item No: H008

Scientific name: Houttuynia codata
English names include heartleaf, lizardtail, and fishwort.
The leaf has an unusual taste because of the bold fishy flavors (earning it the nickname "fish mint"). Not commonly used in American-Vietnamese restaurant dishes but it is very popular in home dishes of grilled meats, fish soup dishes. Also, it's usually eaten raw in herb noodle salads and fresh home-made fresh spring rolls.
Fish mint is also used in folk medicine for diuresis and detoxification and herbal medicine for antiviral, antibacterial. Recently it has been suggested that it might have anti-obesity properties.
